Is it true that there should be about 425 mg of natural progesterone USP per ounce of crème?
In his book, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause", Dr. Lee breaks down the adequate daily amount of natural progesterone USP to be "20 to 30 milligrams per day." He further writes, "Let's say each two-ounce jar or tube of 3 percent (by volume) or 1.6 percent (by weight) progesterone cream contains 950 milligrams." This would mean that a two-ounce jar with 950 milligrams has forty-eight ¼ teaspoon applications and each application would provide about 19.79 milligrams of progesterone. But let's say that 8.5 oz jar of cream has 1530 milligrams of progesterone. That would mean that a 8.5 oz jar would have fifty-one 1-teaspoon applications and each application would provide about 30 milligrams of progesterone. In the 8.5 oz jar the application size is larger and provides a higher concentration of progesterone. Whatever progesterone crème is used, do the math to be sure that the daily application is "20 to 30 milligrams per day". (Reference: 1-oz equals 2 tablespoons. 2 tablespoons equals 6 teaspoons.)

Where do I put the crème?
A good Liposome carrier system well give some level of absorption anywhere it is applied to the skin. For best results, apply to skin with the least amount of hair. Choose skin areas that are relatively thin and well supplied with capillary blood flow, such as upper chest, neck, inner arms and inner thigh areas including back of the knees.

Why have some symptoms increased since I started using natural progesterone?
There are women who have reported that after starting to use natural progesterone, symptoms increased over the first couple of weeks but then went away. In the beginning, progesterone may stimulate estrogen receptor sites temporally. A phytoestrogen crème or natural Estriol USP crème may help during this period of time.

Why didn't natural progesterone crème work for me?
Progesterone is fat-soluble and in the first couple months may be absorbed just into the body-fat. For this reason in the first two months of starting to use a natural progesterone cream, double the application. Some women have reported results within minutes, some it took weeks and others 2 or 3 months to achieve results. Progesterone cream is only part of a program to balance hormones. Also remember herbs for adrenal exhaustion along with diet, vitamins and exercise. If there are still no results after 2 or 3 months of proper diet, supplements and a natural progesterone crème, a good phytoestrogen crème or natural Estriol USP (estrogen) crème may help.

Doesn't estrogen cause cancer?
The body makes estrogens because it needs estrogens. Estrogens are responsible for the sexual development and puberty in girls. Also for the body fat content, strength of bones and heart in women. Estrogens are a good thing. Estrogen dominance is not. Progesterone opposes estrogens creating balance. This balance between progesterone and estrogens is desired, because when progesterone is too low, estrogens go unopposed or dominate. Unopposed estrogens are the only known cause of endometrial cancer. All evidence has shown that Estriol is the safe estrogen to use, may be protective against breast cancer and has been the choice in Europe for decades over the synthetic "conjugated estrogen" (from pregnant mare's urine i.e. Premarin®, Prempro®, Premphase®, Prempac®) that is known to contribute to breast cancer.

What are phytoestrogens?
Phytoestrogens are phytohormones from plant origin. Phytoestrogens should not be confused with the body's own estrogens. Even though phytoestrogens are very weak, they are multifaceted and protective. Phytohormones are compounds that may convey androgenic, corticosteriod, estrogenic or progesterone like effects when there is a hormone deficiency. Phytoestrogens will also vie at the estrogen receptor sites with dominant estrogens blocking them out. The average American diet is deficient of the whole foods that have protective phytohormones.
